Leonardo ban could scupper Ancelotti operation
Sport
Leonardo was summoned to give evidence by France’s Professional Football League (LFP) on Thursday evening in an investigation into an incident which involved the Paris Saint-Germain Director of Sport and referee, Alexandre Castro. After the hearing, Leonardo was handed a nine-month suspension – an outcome which could seriously harm Real Madrid’s attempts to lure PSG coach Carlo Ancelotti to the Bernabéu as replacement for the outward bound José Mourinho.
PSG are expected to appeal against the sentence. The offence for which Leonardo has been found guilty, carries a maximum punishment of a 12-month suspension.
The French club, who had hoped their Sports Director would be handed a more lenient sentence, had planned to offer him the vacant coaching post should Ancelotti complete his move to Madrid.
