Mourinho: "Pepe, Cristiano and Casillas considered themselves unfit"
Sport
Mourinho spoke about the absence of certain players in the last match against Osasuna, claiming that the press had not told the truth about why Casillas had been dropped.
"Saturday’s headlines are twisted lies. If I had had to deny everything that was untrue, I would never have done anything else. But this is the last time, and since it's possibly the last time I'm going to talk about Real Madrid, I would just like to say that the players who were not called up have either been declared unfit by the medical team, or consider themselves unfit," he said.
"Pepe, Cristiano and Iker Casillas were suffering from back pain and haven't trained this week and weren't on form last week either. They considered themselves unfit to play this match," he said.
Mourinho insisted that the front pages of MARCA and AS insinuated his intention was to "humiliate someone", and he wanted to make it very clear that "it is not true". When asked why 'Los Blancos' hadn't issued a statement about the players' injuries, Mourinho reminded those present that it hasn't been "common practice" to give medical reports this season.
"When there is malicious intent, everyone knows and you can write about it openly. The ones who put together the headlines for the front pages know full well that Casillas hasn't trained for the last two weeks and they could have checked first... their intentions are very clear for me," he said.
