Florentino not ruling out Zidane for Madrid coaching post

Florentino Pérez, who was re-appointed as Real Madrid president today, admitted that he isn’t ruling out handing the vacant coaching post to Zinedine Zidane. “It’s possible. He has his coaching certificate, he is competent and he’s a madridista. I don’t want to imply that it could be a bit risky but maybe he needs to learn the ropes a little first. He could be involved out on the practice pitches or on the bench but it’s difficult to see him doing both,” Florentino Pérez explained in an interview with Tele 5 news on Tuesday night.
When quizzed about Iker Casillas’ absence in Madrid’s final league game of the season, Pérez concurred with José Mourinho’s account, saying: “There is a medical report which I believe states that he wasn’t fit to play”.
The president also touched on the matter of Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract renewal which appears to have hit stalemate. “He is going to win the Real Madrid’s 10th Champions League. And furthermore, I think he will retire at Real Madrid”.
Pérez ruled out the possibility of Jorge Valdano returning to his old role as General Director (“even though he is a friend of mine”) and stressed that he refuses to listen to offers “for any player” when asked about the situations concerning Xabi Alonso and Gonzalo Higuaín.
