Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan received U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern, government's press service informed. The parties discussed a wide range of issue concerning Armenian-American relations and referred to a number of joint projects. Tigran Sargsyan and John Heffern also touched upon the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Armenia's Prime Minister emphasized that maximum publicity is be provided during the elections, making every case a subject for public discussion. The head of the government stressed this will promote conduction of free, fair and transparent elections in accordance with democratic standards. Tigran Sargsyan said the Republican Party, which is a member of the executive body, will involve no businessman in its proportional list. In that context the parties attached importance to establishment of an ethics commission of high-ranking officials.
Referring to RA bill "on Legal Regime of Emergency Situation", Tigran Sargsyan said different proposals by the opposition have been taken into account, as a result of which the bill has been amended and submitted to the parliament.
"We welcome all the steps of the government and its legislative initiatives giving serious tools to the opposition, which are aimed at conduction of free, fair and transparent elections," said John Heffern offering his support to suchlike initiatives.
John Heffern said he has attended Prime Minister's lecture delivered January 29 in Tsakhkadzor for the hearers of Yerevan school. "It was very interesting. It is appreciable how you uninterruptedly answered participants' questions for several hours, and presented your projects," said John Heffern.
