Turkey should follow Germany's example on Armenian Genocide recognition issue: Edward Nalbandyan

Turkey should follow Germany's example and recognize the Armenian Genocide. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Edward Nalbandyan in the question and answer session with the Government, in response to the question of the "Heritage" faction MP Tevan Poghosyan. "Turkey should recognize the Armenian Genocide, and in this matter we anticipate civilized steps from Turkey" – reports "Armenpress", citing Nalbandyan. He noted that the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey will ensure that such crimes against humanity will never be repeated in the future. In the Ottoman Empire during World War I, the massacres of the Armenian population are called the Armenian Genocide.
Those massacres were committed by the Young Turk Government in the different regions of the Ottoman Empire. On the eve of World War I more than 2 million Armenians lived in the Ottoman Empire. About one and a half million Armenians were killed in the period from 1915 to 1923, others were either turned Muslim by force, or found shelter in different countries of the world. The fact of the Armenian Genocide has been recognized by more than 20 countries, including Uruguay, Lithuania, Russia, France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus, Argentina, Belgian Parliament, Canada’s House of Commons and the Polish Sejm, the Vatican, 42 U.S. states, the European Parliament, the World Council of Churches.
