BBC - The coalition comprised of 200 international law-defense organizations of 27 countries have issued a statement calling on Russia and China to help Western countries and the UN Security Council prevent violence in Syria.
Well-known organizations like the International Federation of Human Rights, Human Rights Watch, the Global Alliance for Citizens' Participation and Christian Aid have joined the call in light of the anniversary of the upheaval against Asad.
The international law-defense organizations have also been joined by well-known foreign cultural figures, including British writer, actor Steven Fry and Canadian singer Nelly Furtado.
The coalition of advocates has addressed the UN Security Council with the demand to adopt a new resolution and call on the Syrian government to put an end to the bombings and the attacks against the opposition and peaceful population.
"Russia and China blocked the UN Security Council's resolution on Syria twice in Asad's defense, and Asad accepted that as a "right to kill"," said Executive Director of Human Rights Watch Kenneth Ross.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday declared that Moscow isn't defending Asad's regime, but the principle of justice.
