Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian and his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle discussed on March 16 Armenian-German relations.
Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said in a news conference issues on developing bilateral relations with Germany have been highlighted in a meeting with his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle.
“This year we mark 20-year anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations with Germany. A number of measures were taken to strengthen and stabilize cooperation in different fields. High level of talks is launched in political and economic fields,” Armenian FM emphasized.
Armenia and Germany have efficient cooperation in judicial field; some 30 treaties are also signed; besides the parties are developing new treaties and projects that are though to be signed on the sidelines of EU-Armenia cooperation. Minister Nalbandian thanked his German counterpart for support provided to Armenia since independence.
German FM Guido Westerwelle stated Germany is committed to support Armenia’s economic development, as well as establishment of rule of law.
The sides also exchanged views on the situation in Syria and Iran. Germany is sure that international sanctions should be applied against Iran until Iran launches constructive negotiations with international organizations, Minister Guido Westerwelle said.
"Iran may stop sanctions imposed against the country by transparency in their programs,” German FM Guido Westerwelle said.
“In this phase sanctions against Iran are necessity as the latter is unwilling to cooperate in research of nuclear programs,” German FM stated.
According to Guido Westerwelle “3+3” format meeting is supposed to be held soon, which will hopefully have positive outcomes.
