A sculpture dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Armenian printing was unveiled in Yerevan on Monday. The monument authored by French Armenian sculptor David Yerevantsi was erected at the intersection of Moskovyan and Teryan Streets.
It symbolizes the story of the oldest manuscript of Matenadaran - "Msho charentir" ("The Mush Collection").
The book was saved by two survivors of the Armenian Genocide who found the manuscript in a ruined monetary and brought to Eastern Armenia. Since the book was very large, they divided it into 2 parts.
Yerevantsi portrayed the two women with the manuscript in their hand.
"I want this statue to become a symbol of fait for the Armenian people," said the sculptor.
Serzh Sargsyan and Minister of Culture attended the opening ceremony.
