Armenia Abstained in UN GA Voting on Syria

The resolution condemns the Government of Syria and demands transition to democratic system.
Armenia abstained during the voting in UN General Assembly on Syria, on Friday. This was reported to Azatutyun radio station by MFA press speaker Tigran Balayan.
The resolution proposed by group of Arab states has been adopted by the UN GA on Friday with the support of the majority of votes. Russia, however, was against the resolution. Since February, the number of states that abstained during the vote on resolution concerning Syria increased from 17 to 31. The resolution in UN GA has been adopted two weeks later after the UN Security Council failed to agree on the cooperative actions on Syria, reports the UN official website. The resolution condemns "human rights abuses by armed opposition groups" and "all violence, irrespective of where it comes from, including terrorist acts." It also strongly condemns "the use of force against civilians, massacres, arbitrary executions, the killing and persecution of protesters, human rights defenders and journalists, arbitrary detention, enforced disappearances, interference with medical treatment, torture, sexual violence, and ill-treatment, including against children."
UNO GA resolution has no binding force.
The resolution of UNO GA on Syrian issue in February, which demanded Paresident Bashar al-Asaad’s resignation, was accepted by 137 for, 12 against and 17 abstaining. In February Armenia was one of those countries that abstained, tht enumber of which increased by 14.
