Olympic vice champion of wrestling Arsen Julfalakyan wrote on his Facebook page:
“So, dear compatriots, I decided to touch upon the “brilliant” flight of thought of the “smart” Azerbaijanian reporter, such a flight that I’m afraid he’ll fall down and get an injury.
However, it’s very normal, as defeat of the Azerbaijnanian athlete was very hard and for sure, reporters that expressed that idea have got psychological and mental injury. Why I was silent for two days, because I didn’t consider worthy to express my opinion on those senseless issues. But following social activeness around the topic, I decided to answer. Let me touch upon the article, which states that “Armenian athlete doesn’t respect his metropolitan country and its hymn.”
Let me remind the Azerbaijanians that it’s already 20 years that the Soviet Union collapsed, if they are not aware…As for the hymn, I don’t think that the Azerbaijanian athletes dream of standing on the pedestal and listening to the hymn of other country. And if it’s so, let them inform about it others, including us, and we’ll provide them with our HYMN.
To add, I don’t have any personal revulsion towards any athlete; I’m in perfect relationship with all my competitors, moreover with Russian (Vlasov) and Turkish (Cebi) athletes. Our contact isn’t limited with the carpet and there is mutual respect towards one another. This is sports, and it’s very natural that everyone strives to win.
Some people try to find some political context, but this is also natural – complex of the defeated. Let our Azerbaijanian neighbors know that Armenian athlete respects hymns of all countries, but on pedestal, on the highest platform, he strives to see his flag and listen to his hymn.”
