Both Georgia’s President Mikheil Saakashvili and opposition claim their victory at parliamentary elections held on Monday, Associated Press reports.
The leading party was in a tense rally with billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili’s opposition coalitin, which is the most serious trial for the western president.
No results haven’t been published yet. Exit polls launched by Edison Research and Gfk give advantage to opposition.
After precincts were closed, Saakashvili speaking on TV said that opposition “Georgian dream” coalition won by proportionate system due to his support he has in Tbilisi, but his party leads in majoritarian and will rewin his majority in the parliament.
However, “Georgian dream” appeared with a statement, which reads that exit polls show that it’ll win by proportionate system (63 %) citing Ivanishvili as saying: “I preferred to provide parliamentary majority.”
CEC noted, that preliminary data are expected on Monday at 03:00am.
Emotions reach to the peak, but both parties promised to respect the results if elections will be approved by international observers.
USA ambassador Richard Norland joined call of peaceful elections.
