Google will stop supporting Calendar app on devices running on older operating systems

Google Calendar will no longer work on devices running Android 7.1 (Nougat) and older. In the latest version of the application, a new line, UnsupportedOperatingSystem__enabled, has appeared. It contains a message stating that users need to update their operating system to Android 8 (Oreo) or a later version to continue using the app. TheSpAndroid blog authors were the first to notice the change. Later, indirect confirmation appeared on the apkmirror website, which published a new version of Google Calendar 2023.46.0-581792699-release, specifying Android Oreo (8.0) as the minimum supported OS version.                                                                            "It is quite possible that Google will release some information about this in the coming weeks. For now, it's just a speculation. When I decided to test the changes, the message about the unsupported OS appeared immediately after launching the application, and I couldn't close it; it also did not allow me to go to the main screen of the application," wrote TheSpAndroid.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Google is gradually discontinuing support for old versions of Android for a greater number of applications due to security reasons. According to the company's statements, old versions of Android are vulnerable to hacking and data loss. For example, in early November, it became known about the discontinuation of support for Google Chrome on Android Nougat starting from version 120, which will be released in December.
