Kremlin: Until now no one but Russia is able to play role of guarantor of peace in South Caucasus

As before, a number of countries are trying to destabilize the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh, and Russia is aware of their attempts to push Moscow out of the region, but no one except for Russia is able to play the role of a guarantor of peace and stability there, said Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian president, reports Interfax.        Peskov noted, on the air of Russia-1 television, that three to five years ago, attempts to drive out the Russian peacekeepers from the South Caucasus and to weaken the ties between Russia and Armenia were made under "diplomatic masks.

"Now those masks have been removed a long time ago, and the struggle is waged directly, with an open front," he added.According to Peskov, "indeed, a number of countries are still trying to destabilize the situation around Karabakh, which, by the way, led to the fact that the Azerbaijani side officially announced that these countries are unlikely to claim any mediator role, as they took a one-sided position."Such countries, as per the Kremlin spokesperson, cannot claim anything, and "it is both impossible and irrelevant." "And the fact that they are trying to push us [Russia] out of there, yes, we know that. But for now, no one, except Russia, is able to play such a role as a guarantor of peace and stability in the region. And Russia continues its efforts [in this regard]," said the Russian presidential press secretary
