Biden did not authorize Ukraine to strike U.S. weapons deep into Russia
VideoThe United States has authorized the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to hit Russian territory in the border zone with American weapons, but there is no point in strikes deep into Russia, US President Joe Biden said, The Moscow Times reports.
"If he (Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky) could hit Moscow, hit the Kremlin, would it make sense? It wouldn't. The question is what is the best use for the weapons that he has that we have given him," Biden said following the NATO summit.
In late May, the U.S. president secretly allowed Ukraine to strike Russian territory with U.S. weapons. However, he limited the strike zone to areas bordering Kharkiv Oblast, from where the Russian army began to advance.
The White House later admitted that Washington had authorized the Ukrainian Armed Forces to launch "pinpoint and limited" strikes on Russian army facilities to disrupt the attacks. According to The Washington Post, Washington limited the depth of strikes to 100 kilometers from the border, which put key Russian airfields from which planes take off to attack Ukrainian cities out of range.
