Apple has new policy: Broken iPhone and Apple Watch screens will no longer be replaced free of charge under warranty
VideoApple recently changed its policy and will no longer provide free replacements for broken iPhone and Apple Watch screens under warranty. WCCFTech reports this with reference to a document addressed to authorized retailers and service centers.
The document states that the standard warranty no longer covers hairline cracks on device screens. Previously, Apple replaced glass for free on devices with minor cracks in the absence of other damage to the case. However, under the new policy, such defects are now classified as accidental damage, which excludes them from warranty repairs.
Therefore, from now on, iPhone and Apple Watch owners will be forced to pay for repairs themselves if their devices are not protected by the extended AppleCare+ warranty.
At the moment, the innovation only applies to the iPhone and Apple Watch, but it is possible that similar restrictions may be applied to other categories of devices, such as iPad and Mac. For now, these devices remain covered under the standard warranty for such damage.
