"Georgia supports the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict peacefully", announced the Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili in a jointly press conference with Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan Yerevan on January 17.
“I wish the two countries, Armenia and Georgia, to invest all their potentials in the peaceful settlement efforts,” he said.
Ivanishvili added that he had talked the issue over with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in the course of a recent visit to the country and conveyed the latter’s opinion to Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.
The question of "Rustavi" channel angered Georgian Prime Minister on the statements by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Maya Panjikidze in Lithuania on the subject, which, according to some media reports, was in favor of a solution in the framework of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
"I do not understand why you ask that question again. This question is closed, it has been said that the statement was distorted, and your television for two days raised this issue and announced about distorting the words of the minister. This matter is closed," said the head of the Georgian government.
In his turn, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan thanked his counterpart for a balanced position on Karabakh.
“I want to thank the Georgian side for a prompt response to media reports distorting remarks on Karabakh voiced by the high ranking officials."
The stir in Georgia broke out after the Azerbaijani media, issued a statement of Maya Panjikidze allegedly made during her visit to Lithuania, where, when asked about the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, the Minister stated that it could be done only in favor of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. This information was checked by the Armenian media, which specify: Panjikidze said she respected the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and in connection with the Karabakh conflict noted that all conflicts were unique and had their own solutions.
