Dark music days begin in Iceland’s capital

The annual contemporary music festival Dark Music Days opens in Harpa concert hall in Reykjavík today and runs through Sunday evening, February 3. In the four days of the festival, 19 concerts will take place.

The program includes the latest of Icelandic contemporary music, symphonies, chamber, choir and electronic music, solo concerts and concerts with children, as well as a special concert with Chinese contemporary music, as stated in a press release.

Among performers are the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, CAPUT, Reykjavík Chamber Orchestra, Hljómeyki, Nordic Affect, Reykjavík Wind Ensemble, Vox Feminae, Schola Cantorum, Megumi Masaki Trio, Wei-Ji and Ezequiel Menalled.

Dark Music Days has served as an important platform for progressive contemporary music in Iceland since the festival was established in 1980. It emphasizes creativity and experimentation and many of the compositions are premiered at the festival.
