The Russian Investigative Committee (RIC) said it would declare Oleg Smirnov, the son of de facto Transdnistrian President Igor Smirnov, internationally wanted, RIA Novosti reported December 9, citing the RIC.
The RIC earlier requested the Interior Ministry forcibly bring forward two Transnistria bankers for questioning in connection with a criminal case against Oleg Smirnov, who is accused of misappropriating 180 million rubles ($6 million) in addition to earlier charges of embezzling humanitarian aid, according to RIC Official Representative Vladimir Markin. Oleg Brizitsky, deputy chairman of the Transnistrian Republican Bank, and several other persons are also defendants in the case.
Markin said that Smirnov forged bank documents in 2008 when he was the general director of investment company Torginvest in Moscow, and transferred the amount to his own bank account in the Tiraspol Business Invest Bank, according to Interfax.
