Boycotting trans-fat lowers disease risk study says
Science and culture
More trans-fat on the plate equals a higher risk for diseases says one study. Diabetes, strokes, and even heart disease could be preventable, according to the research that came out of the University of Sydney, if the ban of trans-fat in fast food joints and likewise in restaurants is instated, Sky news reports.
Government policies which eliminate the use of trans-fat would ultimately be a ‘best buy’ policy as it would create a sound return for governments to invest in, according to Shauna Down, an author of the study. She also said in a statement, “Our findings show that these policies are not only feasible and achievable - they are also likely to improve public health.”
