Mayor of London supports call of statue of Margaret Thatcher in center of London

Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, said he views favorably the idea of setting up a full scale permanent statue in memory of late Baroness Thatcher in the center of London.
Johnson’s words have been cited by a spokesperson for the Greater London Authority in response to comment on a proposal made earlier by Commander John Muxworthy, a Lt Commander on the SS Canberra during the Falklands conflict, to place Thatcher’s statue on the empty plinth in Trafalgar Square to commemorate what she did for Britain.
There are a number of statues and sculptures in Trafalgar Square, with one plinth, called the Fourth Plinth, displaying changing pieces of contemporary art. The Fourth Plinth is managed by the Greater London Authority.
Suitable options for a place to erect a statue to honor Britain’s only female Prime Minister will be explored, the spokesperson said.
However, some have expressed concerns that the statue, if placed in Trafalgar Square, could become a focus for protests.
Yesterday policemen were called to Brixton in South London to calm down people who gathered there to celebrate the death of Margaret Thatcher. Some of the revellers climbed onto the Ritzy cinema building and rearranged letters on its film listings board to spell out the words: "Margaret Thatchers (sic) dead LOL".
Baroness Thatcher died on Monday after suffering a stroke at the age of 87.
