In Iraq, thousands of people gathered on Friday on city squares in the Sunni-populated provinces of al-Anbar and Salah ed-Dinh for a joint prayer and protest against the government’s order to break up a rally in the village of El-Khuveidja which left more than 50 people dead, RIA reported.
The biggest demonstration was in the city of ar-Ramadi where the protesters demanded punishment for the culprits, above all Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
Nearly 200 people have died in clashes with police and soldiers since the start on Tuesday of large-scale antigovernment protests by Sunnis.
