Far-right party protests against World Jewish Congress in Hungary
Աշխարհ
About 1,000 supporters of the far-right party “For Better Hungary” held a rally in Budapest on Saturday in protest at the capital's hosting of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) on Sunday, Euronews reports.
The government tried to ban the rally but the court found it illegal.
Two years ago the party won 46 seats in the national parliament.
In recent years, Hungary has seen the surge in anti-Israeli sentiments. The biggest Jewish community in Central Europe resides in Hungary.
Traditionally, the WJC is held in Israel but this year the organizers of the Congress decided to support Jews in Hungary.
During the Second World War Nazis killed 500,000 Hungarian Jews.
