Raging California wildfire to be 'tamed' by Tuesday evening
USA
Rainy weather conditions in the area should help contain the wildfire that has burned almost 44 sq miles (70 sq km) of southern California forests over the past several days, CNN reported.
According to the US officials, 80 per cent of the blaze that has been raging in California since last Thursday is now contained.
The wet weather conditions are now helping US firefighters to tame the wildfire, however the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection suggested that rainy and dump weather could prove to be a rather mixed blessing. Not only do the rain and high winds slow the work of fire brigades as crews struggle through muddy and slippery conditions, but also the isolated thunderstorms that come hand in glove with the rain bring a risk of lightnings sparking new fires.
As of this moment, the fire has damaged only15 properties while at its peak the blaze threatened around 4,000 homes in the densely populated areas.
A total of 1,895 fire personnel, 11 helicopters, and 6 air tankers are now working to prevent the wildfires from spreading further south.
