A 6.2 magnitude earthquake has struck southern Iran. The quake was at a depth of 36.4 kilometers, its epicenter located 85 kilometers south-west of the city Minab.
There’s been no information of casualties or destruction, says ITAR-TASS. Iran is in a zone of high seismic activity, with powerful quakes occurring about once every 10 years.
In mid-April, a strong earthquake of 7.8 magnitude occurred 200 kilometers from the Iranian city of Zahedan, near the border with Pakistan. The tremor was also felt in New Delhi and other cities of India, Pakistan and the Gulf countries.
The most devastating impact of elements occurred in June 1990, when a 7.7-magnitude quake killed 37,000 people, injuring about 100 thousand.
